Colombia 2.0

Introduction

It’s official, we are heading back to Colombia!

After lots of prayer, we are happy to announce our desire to return to ministry full-time in Colombia.  Two milestones paved the way for this desire:

  1. Gustavo completed his PhD in New Testament (yay!) which means he can make a greater contribution to the Biblical Seminary of Colombia
  2. We will be empty nesters in the fall as all three kids will be away in school (either college or boarding)

Most importantly, we wanted this next chapter of our lives to be dedicated to serving the Lord where we can make an impact in an under-served area of the world.

Our goal is to join the Biblical Seminary of Colombia in January 2020 to coincide with the start of their new academic year.  In the meantime we will be busy raising support.

Important Questions

Two questions that are raised in this regard:

  1. Will your home church support your ministry?
  2. Why doesn’t the seminary in Colombia pay your salary like other universities

Our hope is that Park Street Church (PSC) in Boston, will support our ministry in Colombia. We are in the midst of a rigorous application process with our church.  We should mention that PSC’s prioritizes ministries to the least reach populations of the world.  We fully support this work and recognize that any funding we receive will represent a small portion of our budget.

In terms of the second question, many institutions in the majority world like the BSC rely on missionaries to fill the gap between their tuition, outside funding and operational expenses. Our donation of time and expertise allows the BSC to keep its tuition affordable, to pay its Colombian professors and staff while still maintaining a high standard of academic excellence.

Thus, our raised support effectively becomes a donation to BSC’s annual fund.

We would welcome the opportunity to speak with you about our ministry in Colombia. We consider you an important co-laborer in this important work and we welcome your partnership as the Lord directs you.

All of God’s blessings,

Gustavo and Rochelle
